FREE NATIONAL-LEVEL DIABETES SCREENING & RISK ASSESSMENT CAMPAIGN

FREE NATIONAL-LEVEL DIABETES SCREENING & RISK ASSESSMENT CAMPAIGN

A joint initiative of Ministry of Health and Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals

In alignment with World Diabetes Day, Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH), represented by the Directorate General of Private Health Establishment has announced a nationwide Free Diabetes Screening and Risk Assessment Campaign. This large-scale community welfare initiative aims to reach thousands of nationals and residents across the Sultanate of Oman, empowering them with knowledge, early detection, and preventive care against diabetes.

The campaign will be conducted on November 14 and November 15, 2025, across 122 locations throughout Oman, including all 14 branches of Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals and multiple outdoor venues such as malls, supermarkets, parks, and public events. With an ambitious target of 20,000 free diabetes screenings, the initiative stands as one of the largest public health awareness efforts in the nation.

This year's World Diabetes Day 2025 theme is “Diabetes and Well-Being.” This theme reminds us that diabetes care is not just about controlling blood sugar. It is also about helping people feel healthy, happy, and supported in their daily lives. Good well-being means having access to the right food, medicine, exercise, and emotional support. Everyone — families, workplaces, and communities — can play a part in making life easier for people with diabetes. And our national diabetes screening & risk assessment campaign is in lines with the goal of this year’s theme.

Diabetes continues to be one of the most prevalent lifestyle diseases worldwide, and Oman is no exception. The Free Diabetes Screening & Assessment Program is being conducted purely as a community welfare initiative, reinforcing the commitment of Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals and the Ministry of Health to improving public well-being. The campaign encourages early diagnosis of diabetes through free blood sugar tests, followed by risk assessment questionnaires which will talk about the risk score of each participant, free consultations, and discounted medical services for those requiring further evaluation. Bi-Lingual educational materials on Diabetes will also be distributed to every individual.

Dr. Muhanna bin Nasser bin Rashid Al Musalhi, Director General of Private Health Institutions, Ministry of Health, on this occasion commented, “This initiative aligns perfectly with the Ministry of Health’s vision to strengthen preventive healthcare and early detection. After screening the participants who many need further evaluation has various option, Omani nationals can benefit from the free advanced Diabetes Screening program of the Ministry of Health, they and the resident can continue with Badr Al Samaa of any other medical provider of their choice.  We appreciate the efforts of Badr Al Samaa Group for partnering with us to reach communities across the Sultanate. In past as-well they have conducted campaigns on large scale benefitting a wide range of population.”

Abdul Latheef, the managing director of Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals who is also the board member of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on this occasion said, “Being the largest private healthcare provider in the Sultanate of Oman it is our responsibility to undertake such large campaigns in the interest of the community. We promote early screenings, health awareness and timely intervention which results in improved quality of life. 20,000 screenings, 100 locations, to be managed by 600 staffs, all the logistics involved, offering various facilities is not an easy job for us, but when it comes to our commitment to community, we go way beyond to make it happen. In past also we had conducted the screening programs on the national level, for example 5,000 Free Heart Screenings in September this year, 20,000 Free Cancer Risk Assessments in 2023. These screening has made us detect diseases at a very early stage helping in timely treatment and improving quality of life. Such outcomes encourage us to take up mass screening like the upcoming Diabetes program.”

Dr. P A Mohamed, the managing director of Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals said, “The trust of the people has made us grow into a largest healthcare provider in the Sultanate of Oman. This trust was built by providing exceptional care to the patients and undertaking such initiatives in the interest of the public. We feel it as our moral responsibility to contribute to the improved health of the community. And we will undertake more such initiatives in the future as well”.

Moiden Bilal and Firasath Hassan, Executive Director of Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals, in a joint statement said, “Public awareness and education are key tools in reducing the burden of diabetes. Through this joint initiative with Ministry of Health, we hope to encourage every individual to take advantage of free screening opportunities and make informed health choices. Our goal is to make preventive healthcare accessible to every citizen and resident, ensuring early intervention and healthier communities by reaching over 100 locations and screening more than 20,000 individuals, we aim to create meaningful impact and support Oman’s national vision for health and wellness”.

The initiative also emphasizes education and awareness, helping individuals understand the risk factors, symptoms, and lifestyle modifications necessary to prevent or control diabetes. Through community outreach, corporate participation, and collaboration with local authorities, the campaign aims to make preventive health services accessible to everyone — especially those who may not routinely undergo screening.

On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, several other government entities and health organizations across Oman are also launching awareness activities, reflecting a unified national effort to combat diabetes. The collaboration between public and private sectors underscores Oman’s proactive approach toward a healthier society.
