DGPHE, MOH & BADR AL SAMAA CONDUCTS LARGEST DIABETES SCREENING DRIVE IN OMAN, SETS WORLD RECORD.

Ministry of Health & Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals accomplished the largest Diabetes Screening Drive and Set the world record 

 

Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH), represented by the Directorate General of Private Health Establishments, successfully concluded the largest nationwide Free Diabetes Screening & Risk Assessment Campaign, held in alignment with World Diabetes Day 2025 and set the world record conferred by Guinness World Records by breaking the earlier record of 12,714 done in 24 hours in just 5 hours and 18 minutes. In 24 hours, the criteria of Guinness World Records, total 30,799 screenings were completed.

These 30,799 Free Screening were conducted at 120 locations across Oman including all 14 branches of Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals and many outdoor locations like malls, supermarkets, parks, community centers, and public events. A team of 600 staff members of Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals conducted nationwide mass screenings. 

This large-scale health initiative, conducted purely as a community welfare program, achieved a remarkable milestone of 30,799 free diabetes screenings across the Sultanate of Oman. In the campaign 1,397 participants were found High Risk, 8,165 were found at moderate risk and 21,237 at low risk. The risk scoring was done based on the International Diabetes Federation Questionnaire and the outcomes of the blood sugar test. All the participants which are at medium or high risk were advised to get further evaluated.

The Guinness Record has come as an encouragement and pride to not just the healthcare sector of Oman but the whole nation.

The campaign provided participants with free blood sugar checks, detailed diabetes risk assessment, bilingual educational materials, free consultations, and discounted medical services for further evaluation. This initiative supported the World Diabetes Day 2025 theme, “Diabetes and Well-Being,” emphasizing the importance of holistic care, awareness, and early detection. 

Dr. Muhanna bin Nasser bin Rashid Al Musalhi, Director General of Private Health Institutions, Ministry of Health, praised this joint initiative and the achievement, and said, “The community initiative achieved its goals, and the participation of more than 30,799 citizens and residents demonstrates the community's awareness of the importance of early screening and prevention of chronic diseases. The Ministry provides free checkups for Omanis aged 35 and above at its various health centers, and I encourage citizens to take advantage of them. The Ministry of Health supports the private health sector and considers it an important partner and an integral part of the comprehensive health coverage system. The Ministry maintains strict oversight of service quality and has conducted over 9,500 inspection visits in the last three years.” 

Mr. Abdul Latheef, Managing Director of Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals and Board Member of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, highlighted the extensive logistics and hard work behind the campaign, stating, “Such initiatives goes a long way in ensuring good health of the community. Being the largest healthcare provider it is our responsibility to shoulder with the Ministry of Health for conducting such large scale initiatives taken in public interest”. He expressed happiness for getting the Guinness World Record for this campaign jointly organized by DGPHE, MoH and Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals and said such recognitions work as the motivation to touch further heights. 

 

Dr. P. A. Mohamed, Managing Director of Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals reiterated the organization’s and Ministry of Health’s commitment to public health, noting that the trust of the people is built on exceptional patient care and impactful community initiatives. He congratulated MoH and Badr Al Samaa for reaching out to large number of people for this cause. He said that Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals has a potential of taking such large initiatives which are focused on community welfare. He congratulated the team for achieving Guinness World Record and making the whole nation proud.

 

Executive Directors Mr. Moiden Bilal and Mr. Firasath Hassan jointly emphasized the importance of collaborating with the initiatives taken by the government, for it goes a long way to support the bigger cause – the health and prosperity of the nation. They said such initiatives of this scale where a large number of people are screened helps to understand the prevalence of a disease better and encourage everyone to take constructive steps towards improvement and wellbeing. They expressed joy on getting conferred with the Guinness World Record and said that it is the hard work and commitment along with the good intention of both the teams of Ministry of Health and Badr Al Samaa Group of Hospitals which made it to get this outstanding recognition for taking up initiatives in the interest of the public.
